In case you haven’t been paying attention, I added some advertisements and a tip jar on the far right. That is because
A: I want to prove I’m not dead.
B: I need to monetize this site somehow and Patreon isn’t cutting it by its lonesome.
and C: because advertising hasn’t paid me yet, and is notoriously unreliable. Hence both the tip-jar and the Bitcoin add. Still waiting for that digital gold they talking about.
But anyway, that’s not why I posting finally after almost a year. No. The real reason I am posting is because I have several pieces of news.
Personal news. Some good and some bad.
Since I just admitted to being a negligent, lets start off with some good news; after thinking long and hard about it, I decided not to shut down this site. I might have discussed it with several people, some of which I owe a game review or two for, but know that I am not going to go through with it. I have plans for this site and so long as I can afford the hosting fees, I am not going anywhere.
Now for a little bit of good news wrapped in some bad news. While I still have that $100 gift card for Steam (apparently gift codes don’t expire) and the contest is still technically open, I won’t be announcing another winner until next Geekfest in April. That’s right.
I will not being attending SJ Geekfest this year in October.
The reasons for this are numerous. Among them is the temporary association with a game dev group called Mythwood games. Here’s the story behind that;
I originally was going to start a Game Development LLC with three guys I met at the Illustrious Philly Game Forge (article on that sometime in the future) and one of them was completely in charge of programming-a skill the rest of us had yet to master. To make a long and ugly story short he and his buddy quit leaving me with my friend Omar to try and pick up the pieces We were both passionate but had trouble with the technical aspect, so I gave up the company to him in exchange for what I had invested and let my Good friend Omar take care of it while I took CS classes. He still runs the operation and you can find out his latest work right here.
Meanwhile, I am taking Object Oriented Programming at the local community college when my boss calls me from my part time job at the Chinese Restaurant I used to deliver for and lets me go. Shortly after I start classes, I get job offers for freelance work I signed up for online. I need to take them, since all I had left besides projects like this is a part-time janitor gig, so all of the sudden my free time starts to evaporate.
Now your up to speed.
This also means I won’t be updating or reviewing for quite a while. Money is tight for me right now, and I have obligations outside of this site to attend to. Silver lining here though is that once my schedule clears up, I will be using my time away to completely redesign this site from scratch. I will do away with this gaudy GamePress theme and be making my own plugins and designs. I will still probably use WordPress, assuming that it proves to be feasible before April.
Until then, I will be leaving the site like it is only because the last thing you guys need is one of those god awful “SITE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” splash pages ruining your browser time, and also because I don’t wanna close down the tip jar or advertising to be completely honest. Plus I know of a few ways to modify the site without actually messing with the FTP source files, so I can upgrade the site as a whole all at once when I’m done.
Until then, I will see you next time. Here’s to new beginnings! 🙂
